Read this in: German

I met Sophie Kinsella in Hamburg. In this Interview she will tell us something about her travel styles, her favorite destinations and about the meaning of “keep it simple”.

To tell you the truth I only knew I would have the opportunity to meet Sophie Kinsella one day before. I’m a really big fan of her books. I love reading them. They make me laugh and they are absolutely entertaining. The Sophie Kinsella Books I read so far gave me always positive vibes.

I met my friend Katrin from “in bed with” at the Hyatt. We were there together to do the Interviews for her and my channel. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time and my tons of questions had to stay in my laptop. 😉  But we were really really lucky because her publisher gave us the opportunity (very spontaneous) to meet her. We knew Sophie was busy every minute she would stay in Hamburg.

What did I expect?

I don’t know. I know for sure that I never expected someone like her. Sophie Kinsella totally impressed me. Besides the fact that she is absolutely lovely. Sophie Kinsella is heartily and quick-witted. Every question we asked her was so naturally answered and fast too. She never really had to think about it.

We were sitting on her bed at the Park Hyatt in Hamburg. Sounds kind of crazy but it’s not. Because right after my Interview she was having her Interview with Katrin.

Even if we had time pressure she was totally relaxed and jokingly. You never had the feeling you have to hurry or anything like that.

If you wouldn’t be a writer what would you be?

In my fantasy I would be a singer/songwriter and travel the world. Musik is such a gift. And it would be such a cool life. Singing your own songs and seeing the world.

In reality I would be probably a Kindergarden Teacher. I love kids and I love all that things you can do together with children like painting, counting, reading or singing songs.

What are your 5 must-have travel pieces?

Creme de la Mer

Eye mask (I can’t sleep without my eye mask).

Pen and Paper (because at odd hours I have some creative ideas).

Credit Card ( this is absolutely essential)

Great pair of shoes (because you never know if you will have an extraordinary event or a party).

What is your favorite travel destination?

I love the States. Especially the landscapes of the Mid West. I’ve traveled with my family and we really enjoyed it. All the typical Diner or Pancake-Houses.

But I really really love New York. New York has such an energy. It is a city that never sleeps and it will never be boring for me.

Do you have any travel Styling Tips?

Keep it simple.

Travel with things that goes all along with each other. Don’t put some pair of shoes in your suitcase what doesn’t fit to anything you brought. Or try not to put too many layers if you travel with the plane. Another great thing I discovered two years ago – neoprene. I love it. Dresses and skirts! It just pops out of your bag and it looks fabulous.
Try also to think before packing about colors. Maybe take three colors like grey, pink and black. You can mix them with almost everything.

Must-have Styling Piece?

When I was at the set for the movie “Confessions of a shopaholic” I learned a lot. Patricia Field was the Costume Designer. I loved every piece she selected. But there was one thing I learned. You have to have two really good things: a belt and a coat. The belt can upgrade almost every Outfit. It gives you the little “it”. The other piece is the coat. During the winter now one sees what you wear under your coat. So you can wear maybe just a simple pair of black pants and a turtle neck but you will stand out with a fabulous coat. People will see you and say: “Wow, this looks stunning”. So invest the money in this two things and you will be always right.

What is your motto?

Onwards and Upwards

Thank you very much Sophie. It was a pleasure to meet you.

Sophie Kinsella was in Hamburg to promote her new book:

I’ve asked her if she had a series in mind when she first wrote about Rebecca Bloomwood. She didn’t. But she had so many ideas for her and her life that she hoped the book would be successful. And it did. When they asked her to write a series she was incredibly happy. The concept is working. We all are looking forward what will happen this time to her and her family.

Do you want her own words?

Sophie was born in London. She studied music at New College, Oxford, but after a year switched to Politics, Philosophy and Economics. She now lives in London, UK, with her husband and family.

Do you want to know more about her? You have definitely to check out the Video of “in bed with Sophie Kinsella”. You will love her even more.

Its always nice to put a name and personality to travel site. Great questions btw, a reader can’t always get into the head of the writter without asking more personal questions

So lucky that you were able to meet Sophie! I remember the first book I read of hers (Undomestic Goddess) and I literally couldn’t stop laughing on the train; people around me though I was totally nuts! I also think Rebecca Bloomwood is my spirit animal!

I’m fangirling over this interview! I love her books so, so much and it is nice to have some more insight into one of my favourite author’s life. Her clever and sharp writing style made me fall in love with chic-lit. She was also the first author I ever saw use first-person present tense (this was much before the whole YA tidal wave). I will definitely be checking out her new book! 🙂

I love Sophie Kinsella, and I reall all of her books! For me, she’s one of the most amazing, funny author out there. I can’t believe you met her, and that’s such an amazing experience. As for her answers, I totally get the whole New York favorite place vibe – it’s def one of my favorite place in the world. Settling there take some courage but I bet it worth the drive!
