Travel vs Sofa

There are some people who actually consider whether a trip is worth the money. A trip costs money and often not very little. It always depends on where you travel and how well you want to spend your holidays. But a holiday should relax. Someone likes to relax by jumping from cliffs or cycling through mountains and valleys. Others may relax with a nice bath in the sea and a massage at the SPA Center. But traveling costs. You have to get there somehow. You have to eat and drink, live nice and maybe do some shopping. Do not forget the drinks and a lot more.

Sofa

I just recently spoke to some girlfriends. The one said she needed the money for a new sofa. The old one would not look be quite good anymore and she would need something new. Travel would not be on her priority list for the moment. Another friend told me that she wanted to buy a new Louis Vuitton bag. This would cost as much as a week in Greece in the 5 star hotel. Maybe a few years ago I would have thought the same way … oh nonsense. No, that’s not right. I have always been traveling. Of course, I was standing in my hand some time with my credit card account and thought to me – that would have been a pair of Louboutin and a new bag. But…

Travel – wasted money

One week vacation. So much money. And when you get back, what happens. The tan is holding (at least for me) just a week. Maybe two. I do not really want to be to tan any more, because I am more in the shade. So much money and you have nothing in your hands …! MOMENT calls the soul, the heart and the mood. You can not balance traveling with material goods. What traveling gives you is unique.

Soul

The soul is very important and is often not considered full. To let your mind go, is not just a saying that looks nice on any tables or in shared contributions. It is about taking an inner time out. Just switch off and enjoy. How and where is for everyone very individual. But mostly it goes along with holidays. Would we live in a warm country, like Florida, e.g. Then we do not need to go so far to let our soul dangle. We live in Germany, however, and the weather often makes a difference to us. Rain and cold, wind and gray sky. Not necessarily what you imagine under “letting your soul go”. At least not me. But then also the fact that you stay home and you still do all kind of work you do regularly will not help to relax.

The Sun and sea

My heart laughs when the sun is shining. If I can still walk along the sea (at least 28 degrees) then this is for me a small paradise. The scent of the sea, the warm breeze that makes my hair messy. The mild summer nights spent on the terrace, with a glass of delicious white wine in my hand. The cool and refreshing bath in the waves. This and a lot more is invaluable to me. No money in the world can compensate for this. I do not really need much to be happy. My soul needs traveling, the sun like other people the air to breathe. Nothing can so much relax me as a view over the sea and the sun that laughs in the sky.

I am often get asked how I can live in Germany, especially in Northern Germany. Do not worry, I asked myself this question several times. This is my home. My family and friends are here and I like the Germans with all their quirks. Even though I sometimes scold. But if I were not able to travel from time to time, I would die. This is how it always has been and always will be. The foreign cultures, the different people, the vegetation, the food and the air, which smells different everywhere. My soul relaxes and my brain expands more and more through the many different impressions. On each journey you learn something about it. You take something home with you. Not necessarily material. It is something that enriches you without taking money into your hands.

Sofa vs travel. Who wins? In my case quite clear traveling. What is not so surprising. But there are actually people who do not care to stay outside their home or city. It does not matter to them for years not to travel anywhere. And I’m not talking about having no money. I have some friends who could afford a few luxury vacations per year. But they spend the money differently and spend the holiday on the terrace, in their own garden. Why go away, the whole stress …

So different are we humans! My conclusion is, emotions are priceless. Everyone’s emotions are different. My girlfriend is also happy about her new Hermes bag after a year, even though a new Louis has just arrived. She misses nothing. I am looking forward to my next trip and still profit from my last ….

Is there a winner or a loser in this case? Hard to say, you ask 10 people, each tells you something different.

Nevertheless, traveling is ahead. It expands your senses and that can not reach either a bag or a new sofa.
